The curriculum at Portland Chinese Lessons is fun and effective. It is designed to speed language acquisition for business professionals, travelers, and families. With over fifteen years of teaching experience and a Master's degree in Chinese Literature, Ms. Knight ("Tang Laoshi") integrates games, skits, color-coding, musical instruments, "Rassias Method" language drills, and Total Physical Response (TPR).
Students may choose various options to support personalized language acquisition:
- Pinyin-only reading and writing
- Simplified or traditional characters
- Speaking practice via phone or FaceTime
- Video playback during or outside class time
- Typing or writing characters on a trackpad
- Books and tapes for children and adults
- Local and online language and culture resources
